Despite not finding success on the field, Toronto FC is riding the coattails of Major League Soccer's surging visibility.
On May 7, sports business company Sportico revealed its 2025 valuations of the 50 most valuable clubs in world soccer. Unsurprisingly, Europe dominated the top of the list, but it is actually Major League Soccer that has the most clubs in the top 50, with 19.
Toronto FC is among Sportico's top 50. The Reds placed 34th on the list, with a valuation of $725 million US dollars. This is the third straight year Sportico has made its top 50 list public, and the third straight year Toronto FC has dropped in the rankings, being placed 24th in 2023 and 28th in 2024.
According to Sportico, Toronto FC earned approximately $75 million US dollars in revenue for the 2023-24 period tracked. It should be noted that Major League Soccer has revenue sharing, which skews Toronto's true revenue growth.
Despite dropping down the list for two years running, Toronto FC still rank ahead of notable European clubs in valuation. Toronto ranks four spots ahead of Dutch giants Ajax (38) and seven spots ahead of potential Liga Portugal champions Benfica (41). 2022 Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt are also valued lower than Toronto FC, placing 47th on the list.
That's not all, though, as Toronto FC has a higher club valuation than Premier League clubs AFC Bournemouth, Brentford, and Crystal Palace, which rank 48th, 49th, and 50th, respectively.
Among MLS teams, Toronto FC was ranked the 9th most valuable, with 10 MLS teams within the top 50 being valued less than the Reds.
The growth of Major League Soccer and the sport of soccer itself in North America is a leading factor in Toronto FC being ranked among the 50 most valuable soccer clubs. However, gate revenue for Toronto FC is actually down considerably this season, with an average attendance of 21636 so far at BMO Field.
Major League Soccer's visibility is among the best in football, so there is every chance Toronto FC's valuation will continue to rise (albeit they could continue to drop in the rankings) despite such a poor product on the field these last four years.
