Udinese sensation Lazar Samardžić revealed the interest he received from Barcelona before coming to the Serie A and also voiced his thoughts about the future of Tottenham loanee Destiny Udogie.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Italian Football Podcast, Lazar Samardžić explained the interest he received from current LaLiga champions Barcelona before joining Udinese from RB Leipzig. He disclosed that Juventus were also in contact with him but nothing concrete ever came out from both clubs. The player pointed to his personal likeness of Barcelona because of Lionel Messi and heaped praise on the World Cup winner.

Samardžić said: “There was interest from both Barcelona and Juventus. It wasn’t really close. We spoke a bit, interest was there but it wasn’t close. My favourite team as a kid was Barcelona because of Messi. He was my favourite player. I watched every game and saw him every game. I think everyone would like to be like Messi. But he is not human, he is unbelievable.”

During the interview, the 21-year-old midfielder provided optimistic thoughts on his teammate Destiny Udogie’s career. The Tottenham loanee made 32 appearances this season, netted thrice and registered four assists for Udinese.

Samardžić believes that the 20-year-old right-back has a huge future in front of him and will become a key player for Spurs next season. “Udogie is the best left back in Serie A for me. He can do everything. I think he will be an important player for Tottenham next year. He is an amazing player” claimed the Serbian as he wished well to his teammate.

Lazar Samardžić made 36 appearances this season for Udinese and has become a crucial player for them in his two seasons at the club. He is considered one of the brightest young players and has considerable potential to show for next season. He recently confirmed that he will represent Serbia instead of Germany, despite being eligible to play for Die Mannschaft as well.
