Udinese winger and France international Florian Thauvin (30) is in talks with Montpellier, according to a report from L’Équipe tonight. The 2018 World Cup winner with France joined the Serie A side during last winter’s transfer window and put pen to paper over a two-and-a-half year deal. The move occured after Thauvin saw his contract with Tigres of Monterrey unilaterally terminated. However, Thauvin’s spell with the Udine-based club is so far underwhelming. He has started only four Serie A games with I Friulani and has no goal contributions so far.
The former Marseille man is said to be seriously considering a return to France. L’Équipe report that Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin had already contacted Thauvin last winter. Both parties reportedly spoke again a month ago. Thauvin is reportedly wishing to play for a family-oriented club, in which he could enjoy playing football again. In his opinion, the Michel Der Zakarian-led side, who finished 12th this Ligue 1 season, looks ideal.
Thauvin could mutually terminate his contract with Udinese in order to join the Hérault side on a free. Nevertheless, Montpellier’s priority is to find a striker who could replace free-scoring sensation Elye Wahi (20) with Arsenal looking to submit an offer for the U21 France international.
