Udinese coach Andrea Sottil was delighted after victory over Monza.
Destiny Udogie struck the winner for Friday night's 2-1 win.
Sottil said, “I'm delighted for my first win in Serie A. I was looking forward to it but most of all I'm delighted for the lads. We wanted and needed to send out a message to other clubs.
“It was the right time to bounce back, put in a great performance and especially pick up some vital points. What's more, we fully deserved the win based on how the lads played today against a great team.
“Monza have got a top squad including international players. There's no such thing as an easy win in football and Serie A is no exception. Congratulations to the lads, especially for their fighting spirit which they showed right until the end, going for every ball. This includes the substitutes and I might be a bore in repeating this but it's vital that the whole squad contribute. The lads who came on today did a great job when called upon.
“I like how much grit we showed. We've worked on our pressing in recent weeks and the lads did well at this today, winning back many balls in midfield while also getting forward and scoring twice.
“I'm delighted for Beto scoring and playing well after time out injured. Roberto Pereyra did a great job as captain and put his neck on the line.
“Winning gives you the biggest confidence boost. We'll approach the coming days with added enthusiasm, while knowing that we've got to prepare to face a great team in Fiorentina. Yet we're also a great side and the lads have shown what they can do while staying humble."
