The UEFA Super Cup is hosted by the Stadio Friuli in Udine this evening, as Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur face off in one of the most sustainable stadiums in the world.
It kicks off at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) and is the showdown between the winners of the Champions League and holders of the Europa League trophy.

While Italy has struggled to get new stadiums built or reconstruction projects off the ground, Udine is one of the success stories in the Peninsula.
Officially called the Bluenergy Stadium for Udinese matches, but still the Stadio Friuli for neutral events, it will also be hosting the 2026 World Cup qualifier between Italy and Israel in September.

This is not just a new stadium, but the most sustainable in Italy and the fourth top ranking globally in the Brand Finance Football Sustainability Perceptions Index.
“The Super Cup is the perfect opportunity to show the world what Udinese is all about and spread the messages that are dearest to us,” explained Chief Commercial Officer Magda Pozzo.
“It’s no coincidence that we dedicated one panel to sustainability – a matter of fundamental importance to our club and one of the key factors that weighed on UEFA’s decision to select Bluenergy Stadium as the venue for this historic match.”
That panel included UEFA Executive Director of Sustainability Michele Uva and Bluenergy CEO Alberta Gervasio.

Another panel was on the success of an Udinese side that has been in Serie A for 31 consecutive campaigns, including former players Oliver Bierhoff, Gerard Deulofeu and Gokhan Inler.
“To host the UEFA Super Cup is a great satisfaction for the club, and for the city. The whole world is watching you, you have the big clubs here. I am happy for the region, but also for Udinese, which is doing a fantastic job in the last 30 years”, said European Champion Bierhoff.
The stadium is equipped with 2,409 solar panels that generate more than 1,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity annually—well above the 770 MWh it consumes—making it fully energy independent.
The initiative is expected to prevent roughly 6,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions each year—the equivalent of taking 1,516 cars off the road or covering the electricity needs of 1,355 households for a year.
The project awaits final approval from the authorities to start.
