Bologna could make use of their connection with Manchester United to sign Facundo Pellistri this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Pellistri has been with the Red Devils since the summer of 2020, but he has made only 25 appearances in all competitions.

He is far from an assured starter at United and Bologna appear keen on prising him away from the club before the transfer deadline on August 30.

The Serie A outfit are eyeing a strong competitor to Dan Ndoye and Pellistri has been identified as a suitable target for new manager Vincenzo Italiano.

Cagliari are also admirers of the Uruguayan, but Bologna could reportedly have the edge after the connection created by Joshua Zirkzee’s move to Old Trafford.

Pellistri would benefit from move to Bologna

The 22-year-old has been a fringe player for the Red Devils. He managed only 364 minutes last term before he was loaned out to Granada for the second half of the season.

Pellistri played 31 minutes off the bench in the Carabao Cup against Manchester City on Saturday, but his substitution was probably forced by Harry Maguire’s knock.

The Uruguayan played in an unfamiliar right-back position. He was largely responsible for City’s equaliser after Bernardo Silva outfoxed him to a header in the box.

In our view, Pellistri needs to move on from United to revive his club career. Bologna, who are in the Champions League next term, would be a good destination for him.

At United, he has fierce competition from Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, Antony and Jadon Sancho for the right wing role. He could fight for the spot with Ndoye at Bologna.

Transfermarkt value him at £8.6 million, but United will hope for a higher fee. Bologna should be a lucrative destination ahead of Cagliari amid their huge progress in the last year.
