The Champions League returned on Tuesday, and treated us to some thrilling ties including Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski facing their former sides.

Letā€™s take a look at our awards.

The Inevitable Potter Content Award

Graham Potter got off the mark as Chelsea boss with a 1-1 draw versus Salzburg. And didnā€™t you just know that the opposition media team were ready and waiting with a Harry Potter reference?

The Squeaky Bum Time Award

Liverpool left it late once again at home as they delivered a 2-1 victory over Ajax, with goal-line technology on hand to ensure that Joel Matipā€™s winner was counted.

The Centurion Award

With a 2-0 win over Leipzig, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti joined Sir Alex Ferguson as the only manager to have won 100 Champions League games throughout his career. Ancelotti will, of course, overtake the Scotsman soon and has won the trophy four times as opposed to two for the legendary Manchester United coach.

The Wish You Hadnā€™t Said That Award

When Nico Schlotterbeck declared this week that he ā€œknew how to stopā€ Erling Haaland, it was always likely to come back and haunt him.

Considering the strikerā€™s current form, it was maybe inevitable that heā€™d find the back of the net versus Borussia Dortmund, but why give him added incentive to do so?

The Not Used To This award

A chorus of boos rang out at the final whistle as struggling Juventus lost 2-1 to Benfica, leaving them with a lot of work to do in order to reach the knockout stages.

Boss Max Allegri insisted that he wasnā€™t feeling the pressure after the defeat but his confidence may well turn out to be misplaced.

The Death, Taxes and Bayern in the Group Stage award

Bayern are simply relentless in the Champions League group stages, and it was no different when they faced a tough opponent in Barcelona on Tuesday evening. The train just keeps rolling on, and their record of 30 games unbeaten before the knockout stages is even more impressive when you consider each side only plays six of them in a year.

The Concentrating on the League award

Thereā€™s no doubt that Antonio Conte has what it takes to succeed in the league. But in European competition? The jury is still out, especially after a 2-0 loss to Sporting in midweek.

The Making You Feel Old award

Club Brugge pulled off a shock 4-0 win versus Porto, and Norwegian forward Antonio Nusa became the second-youngest player ever to score in the Champions League, and the youngest to find the back of the net on his debut. Are you sitting down? He was born in 2005.

The Farmerā€™s League award

Fans of various European leagues continue to throw shade at each other about the quality on display, but the Bundesliga certainly stated the case against being a ā€œfarmerā€™s leagueā€ on Tuesday night as all three German sides won their games.

The Eagle has Landed award

After winning the Europa League last season, Eintracht Frankfurt got off the mark in Europeā€™s most elite competition with a 1-0 win over high-flying Marseille.

The top trolling award

Real Madridā€™s rivalry with Barcelona doesnā€™t exactly need more fuel adding to the fire, but VinĆcius Junior had a cheeky laugh at BarƧaā€™s expense with a picture on his Instagram story after their 2-0 defeat to Bayern on Tuesday night. Itā€™s a good job that his team followed up with a win on Wednesday thoughā€¦

The šŸ Award

Wow. Just wow. When Lionel Messi netted against Maccabi Haifa, he became the only player to have scored in 18 consecutive Champions League campaigns. Thatā€™s longer than Club Bruggeā€™s Antonio Nusa has been alive!
