Tyrhys Dolan spoke of his excitement and enthusiasm to play for Blackburn Rovers for the first time in front of a home crowd, in an interview with Rovers TV.

It was a wonderful first season at Ewood Park for Dolan following his release from Preston North End. Tony Mowbray saw something in him and the manager’s faith was repaid with six goal involvements in the Championship, going into the campaign at just 18 years of age.

Dolan expressed his longing for home supporters, saying: “It’s something that I’ve never experienced before and I’d only ever played in front of fans for FA Youth Cup games.

“I can’t wait to play at Ewood in front of the home supporters, it’ll be like a home debut all over again. I’ve said plenty of times before just how much I’ve been looking forward to that happening.”

Despite showing a lot of promise particularly in the earlier knockings of the campaign Rovers slipped to a 15th placed finish, though it was apparent throughout the season that they were capable of much better. The return of fans to Ewood Park could be just what they require.

He continued: “Seeing games at the Euros with the fans in, you get goosebumps just by looking at the reaction from the fans.

“I can’t wait to experience fans going crazy in stadiums again, I’m really looking forward to it. Seeing my friends and family in the stadium with the rest of the fans, it will be a great moment.

“When it does happen, I want to go out there, put on a show and make everyone proud.”

The Verdict

The early signs are extremely encouraging with Tyrhys Dolan, able to transition seamlessly in any position across a front three. 2020/21 was a season like no other, the unforgiving schedule gave a non-stop feel to the campaign and for Dolan to come through it injury free with 42 appearances to his name, having previously not had any in men’s football, show that he is made of sterner stuff.

Dolan and Blackburn should be aiming to kick on towards a top half finish this term if they can sustain the performance levels that they did in spells of the turbulent 2020/21 examination.
