Tyrhys Dolan's Blackburn Rovers contract is set to expire this summer
Valerien Ismael has claimed that Blackburn Rovers are waiting on Tyrhys Dolan to make a decision amid his expiring contract.
The 23-year-old could be set to depart Ewood Park for nothing unless a fresh agreement is signed in the next couple of months.
The winger’s deal comes to a conclusion in June, meaning he will be free to discuss terms with other clubs over a move in the summer.
However, Blackburn have not given up hope that he could ultimately opt to stay beyond this season, having come through the club’s academy system.
Ismael has claimed that it is currently just a waiting game with Dolan, but that the club is moving forward as if he is leaving.
He believes the player is in control of the situation, and that this process is quite normal for someone out of contract, but he wants to prepare just in case he opts to move on.
"I think everything can happen,” said Ismael, via the Lancashire Telegraph.
“We have to understand that Tyrhys is in a good position. He's out of contract.
"We understand that he and his management want to assess the situation and what's available on the market for him.
“This is a normal process in football.
"When the players are in those situations, they want to take advantage of the situation.
“We are aware of that.
"At the same time, we have to move forward and try to prepare the situation and the position if he should leave the club."
Dolan has proven a crucial player for Blackburn this season, featuring 42 times in the Championship as the team fights for a top six finish.
The winger has contributed six goals and six assists, his most prolific return in the league in his career so far, with two games still left to play.
Rovers are currently ninth in the second division table, four points adrift of the play-offs.
Next up for Ismael’s side is a home clash against Watford on 26 April.
The best Blackburn can do now is to convince Dolan that this is where he should spend the next few years of his career.
This will include assurances about game time, about their long-term ambitions and about the kind of compensation he might receive.
Otherwise, he is likely to have plenty of suitors across the Championship and he might fancy a change in scenery after spending all of his career so far at Ewood Park.
Dolan’s grown into an important part of the squad over the years, so losing him for nothing would be a real blow to the club.
