The scouting system at Liverpool is one of the best in the world. It doesn’t necessarily pick out the obvious target in and around Europe, but it picks out some of the most talented for Liverpool to secure.

Whilst Manchester United were securing then Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, Liverpool were welcoming Georginio Wijnaldum, who went onto win both the Champions League and Premier League.

The Reds hold a clear policy of not spending for the sake of it; they will wait for the right target to come along. And if the right target does not come along, they will not shift their focus onto someone who is not as suitable.

This summer is a clear example of that policy, too, with the type of players the Reds are looking for becoming increasingly specific, as revealed by Liverpool Echo, cited by the Anfield Watch Twitter account.

The Echo revealed that those at Anfield are targeting players who are not too old, but reasonably established with potential to improve whilst being good enough to challenge the current squad. Position wise, they are looking for a versatile player who is also potent down the centre.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

The Liverpool transfer policy takes a lot of patience, that’s undeniable, but, more often than not, the wait is worth. If the Reds find the right target this summer, expect them to make a significant impact on the squad like others before them.

Likewise, if the right player to target is not found, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see the Liverpool summer business end with Konate.
