In a recent interview with Rousing The Kop, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Liverpool are keeping a keen eye on Newcastle United centre-forward Alexander Isak. Bailey said,
“Isak has always been in play. I’m confident with my sources on him and what we’re hearing.
“Newcastle are willing to break their wage structure on a new deal for him, but Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the talks and it’s going to come to a head very soon. There’s not much coming out from Newcastle’s end so we wait to see which way it goes.”
Isak enjoyed a productive campaign at the Tyneside club after he put in a series of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The Swedish striker was involved in 42 matches for Newcastle last season, scoring 27 times and securing six assists in various competitions.
The 25-year-old led the line well as he averaged 3.1 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept 43.2% of his attempts on target. Isak even distributed possession in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 75.3% in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).
His current deal at St. James’ Park will expire in the summer of 2028. Therefore, Liverpool would have no choice but to meet Newcastle’s demands if they want to land Isak this off-season.

Isak is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third.
The Swedish striker has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opposition goal. Standing at 1.92m, he is a strong presence in the air as well.
We can expect Isak to bring more firepower to Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s frontline. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Merseyside club next season.
At 25, Isak has his best years ahead of him, so the Reds would be wise to step up their efforts to land him in this transfer window. He might even help the Merseyside giants compete for multiple silverware in the future. Thus, Isak would be an excellent fit for Liverpool’s needs this summer.
