The MLS is back on Inter Miami’s radar after defeating Tigres. Yet, the Leagues Cup semifinals have already been revealed, and the Herons will get their rematch against Orlando City.
Still, Mascherano needs to focus on ways to stop Benteke and Pirano, the Black and Red's most influential players, and qualify for the playoffs.
Remember, Lionel Messi and Alba won’t be available for Saturday night due to their injuries.
That’s why, from InterHeron, here are two ways in which Inter Miami can exploit the opponent’s weaknesses.
Just like Tigres, D.C United has many players on offense, leaving their center-backs unprotected. In that case, Bright, Busquets, and De Paul are essentials.
The three players need to run like they never ran before, as they will be the ones commanding the transitions to hurt the Black and Reds.
Busquets and Bright playing deeper as holding midfielders, while De Paul pushes higher, covering the long runs.
This approach helps Inter Miami defend well and start quick attacks.
If they do this, the Herons will benefit from D.C United’s poor defensive transitions.
Inter Miami had the good fortune that Tigres and the Black and Red have similar playing schemes. If nothing changes, Ian Fray will, once again, run through the right side without a rival close.
For Mascherano, that’s wonderful cause Fray is a solid offensive weapon that knows when to defend and when to attack.
Once the Herons recover the ball, they need to throw a long pass to the wing, without hesitation. With their fullbacks missing, Allende, Segovia, Allen, or Fray will have time and space to decide their next move.
