During the January transfer window, clubs across the EFL were battling to strengthen their squads ahead of the remainder of the campaign.

One player in particular that was attracting big attention from the Championship was Liverpool starlet Fabio Carvalho.

The 19-year-old was linked with several second-tier sides as it became clear Liverpool were willing to loan him out for the remainder of the season to get more regular playing time.

Hull City is the destination that the young midfielder ended up putting pen to paper at, but there were also links to the likes of Southampton and Leeds United - both of whom are higher than the Tigers in the league standings, and were at the time, too.

Carvalho reveals one key factor in Hull City move

Whilst promotion is a possibility with Hull City via the play-offs, Leicester and Leeds are both in with a strong shout of automatic promotion this campaign, so what was it about the Tigers that turned Carvalho's head?

Well, it appears that two former teammates of Carvalho, who both currently play for Hull, played an important role.

Those teammates being Tyler Morton, who is also a Liverpool player currently on loan at Hull City, and Jean Michael Seri, whom Carvalho had been teammates with at Fulham before he made the switch to Anfield.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Carvalho has now revealed brief conversations that took place with the above duo.

"I was driving back from my agent's office and Tyler Morton messaged me and Mika [Jean Michael Seri] called me," Carvalho explanied to The YEP.

"Tyler told me the gaffer wanted to speak to me and it was such a good club. Then Mika called and said the exact same thing. They wouldn't lie to me.

"I jumped on a Zoom call that night with Tan [Kesler] and Liam [Rosenior]. They said the owner was going to call me. I respected the effort they were putting in."

Morton and Seri intervention could prove crucial

Now, it transpires later in the interview that the chat Carvalho had with Rosenior that night made him feel good about joining Hull City. Therefore, it can certainly be argued that both Tyler Morton and Jean Michael Seri played an important role in landing the player and helping Hull to beat Leeds and Southampton.

Given how Carvalho has performed at the MKM Stadium since his arrival, the two players' intervention may also prove to be a crucial factor in Hull City's campaign.

The 21-year-old has appeared 11 times in the Championship so far, scoring four goals for the Tigers, all of which have helped them put crucial points on the board in their race for the play-offs.

Carvalho netted winning goals against Sunderland and Southampton, for example, whilst his strikes helped earn draws against West Brom and Leicester more recently.

With nine matches to go for Hull, and the club sitting three points adrift of the top six at present, it will certainly be interesting to see if Carvalho can go on and make even more of a difference in the closing weeks of the season.
