The future of Andriy Lunin has become a talking point this summer, with the goalkeeper reportedly unhappy with his role in the team.

After a tremendous 2023/24 campaign, where his performances were crucial in helping Real Madrid seal the double, Lunin might feel iffy continuing at Real Madrid only to serve as an alternative for Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid have two solutions

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has indicated that Real Madrid have two potential solutions, should Andriy Lunin leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The most obvious one is the extension of Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loan spell at the Bernabeu. The Spaniard was loaned from Chelsea last summer, initially to serve as a replacement for the injured Courtois.

But over time, Kepa lost his place to Lunin. However, should the Ukrainian international depart this summer, there could be scope for Kepa to return to Santiago Bernabeu once again.

Real Madrid are happy with the professionalism shown by Kepa during his time at the club and would not mind retaining his services for another year.

Will Real Madrid explore the market for a goalkeeper?

Should Real Madrid rule out the return of Kepa Arrizabalaga or struggle to find an agreement with Chelsea, the club always have the option to scour the transfer market.

To that end, Real Madrid are apparently keeping an eye on Joan Garcia, the 23-year-old Espanyol goalkeeper, who is enjoying a solid year.

Garcia became a first-team regular at Espanyol earlier this year and has since established himself as a key operator for the Catalan outfit.

Garcia’s performances were key in helping Espanyol seal promotion back to the top flight. The Spaniard, therefore, could be an interesting bet for Real Madrid, though Los Blancos could face stiff competition from Arsenal.
