Two ex-Liverpool stars nominated to join Premier League Hall of Fame | OneFootball

The Premier League Hall of Fame is gearing up to welcome two more new members this year, and two familiar faces from Liverpool's past are among the 15-man shortlist: Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the duo has been nominated for induction, but they have continually missed out in the public vote.

In 2023, the former Reds strikers were ultimately edged out by former West Ham, Leeds and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, and Petr Cech, formerly of Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Premier League’s Hall of Fame was launched in 2021 to celebrate the division’s best players since its inception in 1992, and ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was one of the eight inaugural inductees.

Each inductee into the Premier League Hall of Fame receives a personalised medallion along with a £10,000 donation from the Premier League to a charity of the player’s choice.

Hall of Fame 2024 shortlist

Former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole was the first Hall of Fame inductee of 2024; now fans from around the world have until 12:00 BST on Monday 8 April to vote for two players to join him.

The two players who receive the most votes will be announced on Monday 22 April.

Illustrious careers

If either Fowler or Owen were to succeed this time around, it would add yet another accolade to the long list of achievements for the pair.

Fowler is a Premier League legend, netting 163 goals in 379 Premier League appearances, with 128 of those goals coming during his time with Liverpool. The rest came during spells with Leeds United and Manchester City.

Owen, on the other hand, is a former Ballon d'Or winner. He scored 150 goals in 326 Premier League outings across spells with Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester United.

Their impressive goal-scoring records place them among the league's top scorers of all time, with Fowler sitting in eighth place, while Owen was recently edged out of tenth place by Liverpool's very own Mohamed Salah.
