It was Norwich City‘s decision to cut short Aaron Ramsey’s loan spell and the decision drew surprise from parent club Aston Villa, according to a report from The Athletic.

The 20-year-old was sent back to Villa Park a month ago after sustaining a knee injury in a training camp during the World Cup but he recovered in time to join Championship rivals Middlesbrough on loan on transfer deadline day and is said to be training with Michael Carrick’s squad already.

That has proven a source of frustration for Norwich supporters and a report from The Athletic has revealed further details on the situation.

It is understood that it was the Canaries’ decision to cut Ramsey’s loan spell short following the injury.

He’d been one of their better players in the first half of the season, adding three goals and three assists in 20 appearances, but was seen as a Dean Smith signing and Stuart Webber made the call after the former manager was sacked.

The report claims that decision caused surprise at Villa as the deal had worked well for all involved up until that point.

Ramsey will get a chance to face Norwich when they visit the Riverside on the 15th of April in what could prove to be a vital game in the top six race.

The Verdict

The announcement yesterday that Villa had loaned the 20-year-old out to Boro was met with plenty of frustration by Norwich supporters and you can understand why.

Ramsey had been a quality player for them in the first half of the season and has now joined a promotion rival after being recalled due to injury.

However, The Athletic‘s report reveals a twist in the tale. It seems it was the Canaries’ decision to cut the loan short and one that surprised Villa.

That could come back to bite them if Ramsey can help them win promotion in place of Norwich.
