Stephen Warnock believes that Josh Sargent looks ‘settled’ at Norwich City, but he acknowledged a Premier League offer could convince the striker to leave Carrow Road.

The USA international joined the Canaries in the summer of 2021, and it’s fair to say that he endured a difficult first season, as he managed just two goals in 26 appearances when the side were in the top flight.

However, relegation wasn’t initially what Sargent needed, as whilst his productivity improved, as he managed 13 in the previous campaign, he once again didn’t always convince.

Yet, this season has been a big one for the 24-year-old, who has relished the responsibility of becoming a key figure for the Yellows, having scored 16 goals in 25 games to help Norwich to the play-offs ahead of the final game of the season.

As well as the goals, Sargent’s all-round game has been impressive, so it should come as no surprise that there is interest emerging from Premier League clubs, with Wolves and Brentford among those believed to be monitoring the ex-Werder Bremen man.

Of course, the Norfolk outfit will be hoping to be in the Premier League themselves next season, in which case they could keep hold of Sargent, who is under contract until the summer of 2028, so they’re not under pressure to sell.

But, we know it can be difficult to keep hold of players when top-flight clubs make a move, and another year outside the Premier League could have implications for Norwich financially. Therefore, a move can’t be ruled out if David Wagner’s men fail to win the play-offs.

So, it’s shaping up to be a huge few weeks for Norwich, and the summer window will be crucial to the club, no matter what league they’re in.

Sargent’s contract situation means that some Norwich fans will hope they can keep the forward regardless, and pundit Warnock told FLW that it’s a possibility, as he expressed some doubts about whether the player is ready to become the main man for a top-flight side just yet.

He said to FLW via NewBettingSites.uk: “Norwich is a great place to live. You hear so many players who join and end up living there for the rest of their lives, there’s a great fan base down there. He seems really settled at the club.

Players will always want to play in the Premier League. If Norwich can’t go up through the play-offs, then a cheeky bid may come in and it turns your head.

Can he step into the Premier League and play week in, week out? I think he’d be a great squad player. The time that I watched him in the Premier League, and I know he’s more mature now, and got better, just that finishing. Is it as clinical as it needs to be in the top division?

But if you’re looking at someone with work-rate, a player who understands his role within the football club, and happy to be used off the bench as an impact player, I think he would be an ideal signing.”
