Victor will book their place in the knockouts

Portugal and Turkey are both just one win away from a place in the Euro 2024 last-16 ahead of their match in Dortmund.

Roberto Martinez’s side were hardly impressive as they left it late to beat Czech Republic to open their Group F campaign, having gone a goal down.

But, as England, France, Netherlands and plenty more can attest, difficult first games are nothing new at major tournaments.

Therefore expectations will still be high for their second game, against a Turkey team which beat Georgia in a thriller.

Reaching the knockouts is the target for Vincenzo Montella and his nation of perennial dark horses.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Turkey vs Portugal is scheduled for a 5pm BST kick-off on Saturday June 22, 2024.

The match will take place at BVB Stadion Dortmund.

Turkey vs Portugal team news

Montella handed Real Madrid teenager Arda Guler a surprise starting berth against Georgia and was repaid with a stunning winning goal, meaning he’ll keep his place.

Martinez lined Portugal up in a 3-4-3 formation against Czech Republic featuring Nuno Mendes in central defence, but it didn’t quite work.

Goncalo Inacio is a more natural fit if they stick with that shape and either Mendes or Diogo Dalot could be the one to drop out.

Francisco Conceicao may hope to make the starting line-up after his late winner while Diogo Jota and Joao Felix are options. Cristiano Ronaldo will probably continue to lead the attack despite a poor display last time out.

Turkey vs Portugal prediction

Turkey’s open defence should allow Portugal plenty of chances to win what should be an open, entertaining game.

Portugal to win, 3-1.

Portugal beat Turkey in the group stage at Euro 96 and Euro 2008, having also knocked them out in the Euro 2000 quarter-finals - all without conceding a goal.
