Vincenzo Montella, head coach of the Turkish national team, has today provided his take on the difficulties being endured by Arda Güler at Real Madrid at present.

As much, of course, comes with a view to Turkey’s participation at the upcoming European Championships.

The name of midfielder Güler has returned to the forefront of the headlines in Spain across the week to date.

This comes amid a fresh wave of reports, pointing towards ever-growing frustration on the part of the 19-year-old with his situation in Madrid.

After being instructed to ready himself for an introduction to the fray in Real’s La Liga meeting with Sevilla last weekend, Güler was subsequently left on the bench through the full-time whistle, owing to a change in strategy on the part of head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

This marked just the latest in a string of blows for the former Fenerbahçe talent, who has to date managed less than 100 minutes on the pitch across his debut season in La Liga.

Amongst those to have made their grievances with Güler’s lack of playing time most loudly heard have been Turkish football fans, who have long considered the diminutive creator as the nation’s next great footballing hope.

Speaking to the media as part of the presentation of a new sponsorship agreement for the Turkish Football Federation today, the aforementioned Vincenzo Montella, in turn, was drawn on Güler’s difficulties in Spain’s capital.

And Turkey’s boss first went on to reveal his ‘hope’ that the teen, in the near future, will be afforded a more prominent role by Carlo Ancelotti:

“He plays very little, but I hope he can do it from now on because he has a lot of talent,” the Italian began, as cited by Diario Sport.

From here, Montella confirmed that he and his staff are nevertheless keeping a close on Güler, with one eye on this summer’s Euro 2024 showcase:

“We are following him very carefully. We want to call our players in their best physical condition for the European Championships.”
