The 2024 edition of the Trophée des Champions will be played in China, according to RMC Sport. The match should see PSG face off against either Lyon who are in the final of the Coupe de France or Monaco who look set to finish second in Ligue 1.

PSG’s position in the next rendition of the competition is confirmed after winning the Ligue 1 title and qualifying for the Coupe de France final where they will face OL on the 25th May in Lille. French football’s traditional curtain raiser has gone global in recent years with China the latest country to host the competition. The match is set to be played in China’s capital city – Beijing.

The last competition with two teams?

The Trophée des Champions could be set for a renewed format from 2025, according to L’Équipe. A proposed new format for the competition would see four teams face off against each other to win the competition. The four teams would be the podium sitters in Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France. Traditionally played in the summer, the new format would also see the competition take place in winter.
