Official: Villarreal announce club record transfer | OneFootball

La Liga outfit Villarreal have on Friday announced a deal for a fresh addition to the club’s defensive ranks.

The player to have put pen to paper on terms with Marcelino’s troops? Renato Veiga.

The name of stopper Veiga had of course emerged as an altogether prominent one in the Spanish media headlines over the last couple of weeks.

This comes after word was forthcoming that the aforementioned Villarreal had set their sights on an audacious swoop for the Portuguese international.

Armed with the funds from several big-money sales this summer, the Yellow Submarine, in turn, sat down for talks with Premier League giants Chelsea.

And as alluded to above, late this week, these discussions have officially borne fruit.

As per a statement across Villarreal’s website and social media platforms on Friday:

‘Villarreal CF and Chelsea FC have reached a transfer agreement for Renato Veiga, who signs with the yellow entity until 2032. Welcome to the Submarine, Renato.’

As confirmed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the deal marks a club record one for Villarreal, coming in just shy of the €30 million mark.
