Lionel Messi will reportedly be staying in the French capital, as Spanish journalist Guillem Balague reported Saturday that an agreement between the 35-year-old and Paris Saint-Germain has been reached after four months of discussions.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has accepted all the conditions and upon his return from vacation, the two parties will accelerate the deal. Messi and PSG have reportedly agreed to a one-year contract extension plus a one-year option.

Balague adds that practically everything agreed upon between the two sides, from the duration to the salary, will exceed what he makes now. He continues by saying that Barcelona has not offered anything.

So it’s about something other than Messi wanting or not wanting to come back, so a reunion never appeared to be in the cards despite some of the remarks made by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who considers the veteran forward a Cule at heart.

Finally, the main reason the Argentine is opting to stay a third and possibly a fourth year in Paris is his family’s happiness in the city.
