Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis turned down the chance to sign for an unnamed French side last summer, as per a recent report by Hampshire Live.

It is stated in the report that the deal would have earnt Curtis a significantly higher salary than what he earns at Fratton Park, however it has been revealed since that the Republic of Ireland international elected to stay put rather than moving abroad.

He has since stayed loyal to the South Coast club as he seeks to help Danny Cowley’s side to get promoted to the Sky Bet Championship after years of shortcomings and frustration.

Curtis is still under contract with Pompey until the summer of 2023 and has been of interest to several other English sides for quite some time.

The winger has previously made it clear that he would open to a move away from the third tier club but at the same time he has always shown respect for the club that has given him so much.

The Verdict

This won’t come as too much of a surprise to people that are connected with the club, with Curtis having attracted interest from other sides for quite some time.

The biggest surprise will be that the club have managed to hold onto him for this long, with the winger having shown time and time again that he is good enough to play at a higher level.

He is now into the final year on his contract which means that Pompey’s stance over selling him could change in the summer, especially if bids come in for his services.

Every player has their price and it will almost certainly come down to what league the club finds itself in at the end of the season as they bid to keep hold of their key man for a bit longer.
