Villarreal have produced and developed a streamline of talent over the years, including the likes of Gerard Moreno, Diego Forlan, Pau Torres, Joan Roman Riquelme and several others. Joining this list soon could be 16-year-old whizkid Enrique Herrero.

Herrero came through the Villarreal academy, but is set to depart this summer, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid interested in his services, as reported by Marca. Juventus, too, are chasing his signature.

The Spaniard impressed Spain as one of the most talented players among the lower rungs of the ladder and was touted to make his debut with the senior team as soon as next year. He scored 18 goals in the 2019/20 campaign with the Cadet side before the competition came to a halt due to Coronavirus.

In addition to the same, he was also named the La Liga Promises Player of the Tournament in 2017, and as already registered 57 goals at club level.

Madrid find themselves in pole positions to sign the youngster, getting him on a free transfer, and will be sending him to be a part of their U17 team – the Juvenil A. On the other hand, at La Masia, Herrero will join Juvenil B.

Given his trajectory so far, if Herrero does end up joining Barcelona, the youth teams are going to benefit a lot. More so the B team, who host a plethora of talent, and have been pushing for promotion in the last couple of years.
