Transfer News: Manchester United receive blow in Joachim Andersen chase

According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United and Solskjaer have received a huge blow in their efforts to sign Joachim Andersen. Tottenham are all set to begin talks with the player’s representatives and laying the groundwork for a summer transfer.

The 24-year-old defender spent the early parts of his career in his homeland, Denmark before making the switch to the Netherlands in 2013, where he joined Twente. Four years later, he made the jump to Sampdoria before signing for Olympique Lyon in 2019.

After a season in France, Andersen arrived at Fulham this past summer on a season-long loan deal, with the Cottagers having no option to make the transfer permanent.

The 24-year-old missed a few games early in the season due to injury but since returning to full fitness, he has been a mainstay at the back for Scott Parker’s side.

Andersen is a man in demand for his exploits in the Premier League. Sides such as United, Spurs and Chelsea were after the Danish defender. However, Spurs are believed to be moving ahead in this race, holding talks over a potential transfer.

This comes as a body blow for United who want to sign a centre-back partner for Maguire. Nonetheless, United cannot afford to sit back at this stage if they really want Andersen.

They have to step up their efforts to beat Spurs to his signing. Anderson may not be a star signing. However, he is a solid defender who not only continues to grow in strength but is also experienced in the English top-flight.
