Former West Brom midfielder Kyle Edwards has confirmed that he hasn’t been offered a contract with Championship side Reading, after a trial with the Berkshire-based club.

Edwards is currently a free-agent since leaving the Baggies at the end of the 2020/21 season, and he would have been hoping to earn a contract with the Royals ahead of the new league campaign.

But Reading’s current financial position is holding them back when it comes to offering players contracts this summer, much to the frustration of many of the club’s supporters.

Veljko Paunovic has previously revealed that some first-team players could still be sold before the new season starts, but they still seem to be struggling to get players through the door due to financial restrictions.

Edwards thanked the Royals for his experience with them during pre-season, but revealed that an agreement couldn’t be reached due to the ‘current situation’.

Plenty of Reading supporters took to social media to react to to Edwards’ message, with many of them being surprised that he wasn’t offered a contract.
