In June, seven students from Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy took part in the 2025 Premier League Disability Football Festival representing Leeds United and won the Disability Shield competition!

Hosted by Everton in the Community in partnership with the Premier League Charitable Fund, alongside other events running at Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion, over 750 players took part in the competition, promoting inclusion and allowing the youngsters to showcase their skills and develop their confidence.

The Whites fought hard in the initial group stage, before showing grit, determination and fantastic teamwork to beat Preston North End 2-0 in the last four to set up a clash with Bradford City in the final.

Leeds were impressive once more, defeating the Bantams 2-0 to be crowned champions and to be able to take their much-deserved trophy back to their school.

Louise Burns, School Partnership and Education Manager at the Leeds United Foundation, said: “A huge well done to Oliver and the team from Cockburn Laurence Calvert. They showed amazing teamwork throughout the competition. I know they will proudly display the trophies in school!”

The Foundation’s Football4Me programme provides young people and adults with disabilities an equal opportunity to play football, offering professional coaching to develop their skills and understanding of the game.

The inclusive sessions are structured to suit the needs of those attending and allow participants to engage with footballing activities, focusing on developing both football skills and friendships.
