Tottenham: When David Bentley ruined his Spurs career by throwing water over Harry Redknapp
For so long, finishing within the Premier League's top four has been reason enough to celebrate.
While Arsene Wenger's assertion that clubs should be awarded a trophy for doing so was roundly mocked at the time, entry into the following season's Champions League is both a necessity for the top clubs and a game-changer for those looking to break into the established elite.
Back during the 2009/10 season, Tottenham Hotspur were able to do exactly that.
Clearly, Spurs have always been one of England's biggest clubs but this was a Tottenham side who had flattered to deceive.
Though they had recently won the League Cup under Juande Ramos, the dawn of the new decade came just before the real rises in fame of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, as well as the rebuild under Mauricio Pochettino.
So then, the fact that Harry Redknapp managed to take a side who were in the relegation places under Ramos to the Champions League (at the expense of the free-spending Manchester City no less) was worthy of celebration.
David Bentley, however, took it too far.
After securing qualification thanks to a Peter Crouch header against City, the former Spurs midfielder formed part of a group that interrupted the manager during a Sky interview.
As Redknapp thanked his coaching staff for their sterling efforts, he was absolutely covered in ice water, ruining what was presumably a rather expensive suit and cutting the interview short.
You can watch the video below.
Of the incident, Bentley would tell The Daily Telegraph in 2018 (via The London Evening Standard): "It was just a celebration, I wasn't trying to make him look silly.
"He wasn't happy because he was trying to change his image and I went and chucked water on him. He wanted to be like Sir Alex Ferguson.
Not a great move in the long-term then, after all.
