Tottenham Hotspur may still be interested in a move forEverton winger Anthony Gordon, but Antonio Conte may have to wait until next summer to bring the England U21 starlet to Hotspur way, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Spurs are looking at a potential deal for the wide man star, as per The Sun.

Tottenham transfer news – Anthony Gordon

The Sun report that following on from their interest in the summer transfer window, Tottenham are now weighing up a potential move for Gordon in January, after Chelsea had a £40m bid rejected for the starlet last season.

Sky Sports reported back in the summer that the latter were prepared to spend up to £60m in a bid to bring the young talent to Stamford Bridge, but a deal never materialised and the Liverpool-born academy product stayed at Goodison Park following the closure of the window.

However, the previous report in The Sun has also suggested that rumours of a move in the summer may have turned the 21-year-old’s head, and Conte is planning to test the Toffees’ resolve ahead of a potential summer move.

And Brown, who has also told GiveMeSport that the Lilywhites see “something special” in Gordon, believes that a move in the summer could be more likely for Tottenham.

What has Brown said about Tottenham and Gordon?

Brown told GiveMeSport: “The only thing that’s changed is that Chelsea may have moved on and Gordon’s form has gone off the edge of a cliff.

“I don’t think that’s something that can’t be corrected and I think there is still interest from Spurs.

“They wouldn’t pay what Chelsea were willing to pay, so it’s really whether Everton were to accept much less.

“I can’t see Everton selling Anthony Gordon for £30m, it would take the player to try and force that through.

“So, I think it’s very unlikely he leaves in January but in the summer, you might see this come back up.”

Will Gordon sign for Tottenham?

Whilst Gordon possesses a substantial amount of raw talent, it could be suggested that Conte would be wanting to see a bit more cutting-edge and final product from the winger before deciding to make a move on the youngster.

The attack-minded player has made 14 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals and providing no assists according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that he would be unlikely to displace somebody like Son Heung-min or Dejan Kulusevski from the Spurs side at the time of writing.

Sofascore rating of 6.79 for the current Premier League campaign suggests that the seven-time England U21 age has perhaps been a tad inconsistent this season.

Therefore, Tottenham may be more willing to wait until the summer to decide on whether they’re prepared to spend a large amount of transfer budget on Gordon, who will be hoping to add some consistency to his performances and fire Everton to Premier League safety come the end of the campaign.
