Transfer News: Tottenham not interested in Barcelona striker Memphis Depay

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Spurs are not interested in signing talented Barcelona striker Memphis Depay with the Dutchman closer to a move to Juventus this summer.

A talented player, Depay has been with the Spanish club for only one season now. He joined the Blaugrana on a free transfer last season and went on to have a rather decent season with the Spanish giants.

Antonine Griezmann and Lionel Messi left Barcelona last summer and the Dutch superstar suddenly found himself spearheading the attack for Barcelona. He had a blistering start to his career in Catalunya.

However, with the Dutchman playing continuous football for a struggling Barcelona with absolutely no rest, Depay got injured and took a really long time to come back from the setback.

Barcelona went through a lot of changes during this period with Ronald Koeman being sacked and Xavi Hernadez taking over and the Spanish legend signed players in the January transfer window who became his main players.

Since then, Depay has been on the fringes of the Barcelona team without really making it big in Xavi’s plans. He had a very impressive pre-season as well but it looks like the Spanish club are willing to sell him.

Juventus are supposedly interested in signing the Dutchman and have spoken with Depay about a two-year deal but they do not want to pay a transfer fee and Barcelona must agree to terminate the Dutchman’s contract.

As things stand, Spurs have no interest in the Barcelona man and rightly so, considering the options that we have in attack. Depay is a great player but then, he is not what we need right now.

Depay would have been a good addition to our squad if we hadn’t signed Richarlison. However, since the Brazilian is with us, it makes sense that we are not pursuing a deal for the Barcelona man.
