Eric Dier could leave Tottenham in the January transfer window

Tottenham are keen to buy Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham in the January transfer window if they can sell Eric Dier, according to reports.

Dier has not been named in the starting XI or on the bench in Ange Postecoglou’s first five matchday sides in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Micky van de Ven, who joined Spurs from Wolfsburg for £43m, has knocked Dier down the pecking order at Tottenham despite the centre-back starting 31 of their 38 Premier League matches last term.

Tanguy Ndombele and Davinson Sanchez both left Tottenham for Galatasaray earlier this week despite the English transfer window shutting and there have been rumours that the same could happen to Dier.

They have missed the chance to sell him to Saudi Arabia after their window shut last night but the Turkish transfer window remains open until September 15.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Dier held talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy last week to ‘gain greater clarity over his situation’ at the club.

And Football Insider now claim that Spurs ‘will look to sign’ Adarabioyo from Fulham ‘in January if they can offload’ Dier, who could now find himself back in Postecoglou’s squad after the sale of Sanchez.

Tottenham showed they were ‘interested’ in Adarabioyo – whose contract expires at the end of June 2024 – for most of the summer transfer window and ‘are likely to revisit a deal in the winter window either for a cut-price fee or in the form of a pre-contract agreement’.

Spurs exited the Carabao Cup to fellow Premier League side Fulham on penalties in the second round of the competition at the end of August following a good start to the Premier League season.

And former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor reckons Postecoglou “will take the FA Cup seriously now” after their “big loss” in the Carabao Cup.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “Going out of the League Cup, it’s a big loss for Spurs. I think picking some of the players Postecoglou did, it’s the first and last mistake he will make.

“He won’t do that again in a big game. But they’ve responded. If you look at the side that started against Burnley, it’s a top, top side. It’s definitely a team that would have beaten Fulham from the start.

“They would’ve washed them away. Ange will take the FA Cup seriously now, starting his best side. I think it’s going to be a successful season for Spurs.

“I can see them finishing in the top six, and I think they’ve got a chance of winning the FA Cup.”
