Tottenham Hotspur have joined Everton in eyeing a move for Hull City defender Jacob Greaves, according to a newspaper report from the Daily Mirror (10/3 paper edition, page 61).

Spurs have moved for a number of Championship players in recent years, with James Maddison joining from Leicester City in the summer.

Other signings haven't proved to be as successful, with Joe Rodon brought in from Swansea City but failing to make much of an impact during his time in the English capital.

Jack Clarke also came in from Leeds United, but he didn't do well at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has since moved on to Sunderland, where he is getting the opportunity to start every matchday when fit.

Greaves could be the North London outfit's latest signing from the second tier, with the 23-year-old shining under Liam Rosenior this season.

He has also done well before the 2023/24 campaign, which allowed him to attract interest from Middlesbrough.

However, the defender remained loyal to the Tigers and currently has a contract at the MKM Stadium until the summer of 2026.

That will put Rosenior's side in a very good negotiating position if they receive bids for the central defender in the summer, with the Tigers also having the option to extend Greaves' deal by a further year if they wish to.

Tottenham's interest in Jacob Greaves

The Daily Mirror (via Goodison News) have reported that Spurs sent one of their senior scouts to watch Greaves in action against Preston North End at Deepdale last week, ahead of a potential summer approach.

The same outlet has also revealed that the North London club are just one of a number of Premier League clubs to have taken an interest in the defender.

One of those teams is the Toffees, who are likely to be preparing for the potential departure of Jarrad Branthwaite.

Greaves, who can operate as a left-back as well as a centre-back, could be a good replacement for Branthwaite as another player who has plenty of potential and plenty of room for improvement.

Hull City should welcome Jacob Greaves interest

Owner Acun Ilicali is clearly an ambitious man but if he's to spend more this summer, Rosenior may need to cash in on a key player or two to fund these signings.

Hull are already in a good position in terms of Greaves because of his contract situation.

And with interest in him increasing, that should only help to push his price tag up.

That will allow the Tigers to generate as much money for him as possible - and that will enable Hull to spend more in the transfer market.

Losing Greaves would be a blow because he has played a big part in guiding the East Yorkshire outfit to where they currently are, but he probably won't stay at the MKM Stadium forever, so it's important that the club generates as much for him as possible.
