However, Tottenham are more serious with their interest and are preparing a concrete transfer offer to sign Ibanez.

The 24-year-old defender impressed for Jose Mourinho’s side as they finished sixth in Serie A last season. He scored three goals and created one big chance in 32 league appearances.

Ibanez helped his side keep ten clean sheets domestically and showed his defensive class. He won 63% of all his duels aerially and on the ground.

He is solid on the ball, recording 88% passing accuracy. He ranks in the 97th percentile for interceptions amongst defenders in the top five European leagues.

Roma will demand around £30 million for the defender. His former club Atalanta has a resale percentage and will get 10% of the fee.

Tammy Abraham was also in line to be sold to raise money to rebuild Roma’s squad, but the former Chelsea man sustained a long-term injury.

New Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is a fan of Ibanez and has given the club the go-ahead to pursue the defender.

Spurs are looking to revamp their defence that conceded 63 Premier League goals this season. No side in the top half of the table conceded more.

They will let Clement Lenglet return to Barcelona after an underwhelming loan spell. There is also uncertainty regarding the future of Davinson Sanchez.

Tottenham are showing interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. The England international continues to grow from strength to strength but would cost more than Ibanez.
