As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham Hotspur are considering the permanent signing of Timo Werner.

The 28-year-old joined Spurs in January on a 6-month loan from Die Roten Bullen and has impressed during his first eight appearances for the club. So far, Werner has been able to record two goals and two assists, leaving the Premier League club impressed as they look to make his move permanent.

It is understood that Tottenham have an option to buy clause of €17 million inserted into their deal with Leipzig. However, this would have to be activated by the start of EURO 2024 at the latest.

Nevertheless, if Tottenham decides not to trigger the release clause, then it is expected that Werner will still depart Saxony in the summer. This is because neither Werner nor Leipzig consider themselves to have a future together beyond this season.

Regardless, the 29-year-old remains under contract with Die Roten Bullen until 2026, meaning that Leipzig will still receive a respectable fee for the former Chelsea forward. However, other than Spurs, no club has declared significant interest in signing Werner at the end of the campaign.
