Tottenham Hotspur once again interested in Sofyan Amrabat after Morocco star’s World Cup performances

Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat is once again being eyed by Tottenham Hotspur after his impressive performances for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, according to La Repubblica (h/t Express).

Spurs were interested in bringing the midfielder to the club in January this year. However, a deal failed to materialise. Now, the North London side are looking to reignite their pursuit of the 26-year-old. However, we are not the only side in the race for him.

Amrabat started his professional career with Utrecht and then went to Feyenoord in the Netherlands. The midfielder then had a stint with Belgian outfit Club Brugge.

After that, the Moroccan made his way to Hellas Verona and impressed with the Serie A outfit. Fiorentina got him in for the 2020/21 campaign and since then, the 26-year-old has been a regular in the Viola’s first team.

However, Amrabat has caught a lot of people’s attention with his performances for his national side in Qatar. Walid Regragui has started the 26-year-old in every fixture at the World Cup and the midfielder has played every minute at the prestigious tournament in the Middle East.

Morocco are unbeaten in this year’s World Cup. They finished top of Group F and beat Spain on penalties in the round of 16. Against Luis Enrique’s team, the Fiorentina star put in an excellent shift.

Tottenham’s middle of the park consists of the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur. Apart from the Uruguayan, the players in our engine room are more defensive-minded.

Spurs have seemingly lacked creativity through the middle in recent fixtures. Thus, instead of another number six like Amrabat, it would be wise to bring in a more creative midfielder.

Also, Skipp has seen his game time at the club dwindle, with Bissouma coming in in the recent transfer window. The signing of the Moroccan would evidently make it even more difficult for the 22-year-old to get on the pitch.
