Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, reports Sky Italia.

Spurs are looking for a new permanent boss after sacking Antonio Conte.

The Italian was set to leave the north London club at the end of the season when his contract was due to expire.

However, Conte’s rant after the draw against Southampton forced Tottenham to act.

He became the 11th manager to leave his position this term.

They have put his former assistants Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason in charge until the end of the season.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants to appoint a top manager during the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are also on his radar.

An emotional return for their former manager could prove unwise for plenty of reasons.

Hiring Nagelsmann could cost Tottenham plenty of money, while Enrique did not impress in his last job with the Spanish national team.

Zidane proved himself over two spells at Madrid, but he has yet to test himself at another club.

The Frenchman is eager to return to management, and Spurs could look to hold talks before making a decision.

Zidane won three straight Champions League with Los Blancos, setting an unprecedented record.

He also won the La Liga, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup – all on two occasions.

Tottenham have not won silverware since 2008 and could do with such a manager.

However, it should be noted that Zidane won plenty of trophies because of the quality of the players under him.

Spurs have just two world-class players in their squad, and any top manager would underperform at the club.

Zidane could struggle to replicate his magic at Tottenham, and he could have reservations about joining them.
