Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze is expected to leave the club this summer, but it is not certain that it will be to Tottenham Hotspur amid interest from Arsenal.
Independent journalist Miguel Delaney claimed in his ‘Reading the Game‘ newsletter that the Gunners have yet to make a move for the England international, which could give Spurs a chance of pipping them in the race.
Tottenham want to bolster their attack this summer, and long-term target Eze remains top on their wishlist despite his £68 million release clause.
“Eberechi Eze isn’t one to kick up a fuss, but the expectation is that he will move,” Delaney wrote.
“And it isn’t certain that it will be to Tottenham. They do like him, but so does almost every major club, including Arsenal.
“As of Friday morning, there had been no firm approach. Mikel Arteta’s side would need a significant sale to even consider it, given how they are prioritising a striker, but they are interested in that kind of player who can play in the centre or out wide.”
Spurs are ready to back new manager Thomas Frank in the summer transfer market after sacking Ange Postecoglou, and pipping their bitter rivals Arsenal to Eze would be a considerable boost.
The Englishman bagged 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 games last season after ending 2023-24 with 11 goals and six assists in 31 appearances.
He would provide Frank with options on the left wing and as a striker. His ability to beat his marker and deliver perfect crosses are attributes Tottenham need.
Arsenal are not ready to bid for Eze as they are concentrating on signing a new number striker, which could give Spurs the chance to move for their man.
The availability of Champions League football next season, despite their woeful domestic campaign, makes them an appealing option for transfer targets.
Chairman Daniel Levy must be ready to pull out all the stops to bring Eze to the club this summer.
