Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost ahead of their UEFA Super Cup game against Paris Saint-Germain in Italy on Wednesday as the French club will be without Joao Neves.
The Portuguese midfielder is suspended for the game against the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club following his red card in the Club World Cup final against Chelsea last month, according to French outlet RMC Sport.
It is good news for Spurs as PSG manager Luis Enrique has a selection headache to battle with given the influence of the Neves in the middle of the park for his team.
New Tottenham manager Thomas Frank will be eager to win his first competitive game in charge, and having his opponents unable to call upon one of their best players is a boost.
Spurs have played six games in pre-season this summer but have won just twice and will need to be at the top of their game individually and collectively if they want to win on Wednesday.
They lost 4-0 to Bayern Munich last Thursday following a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United last Sunday, and Frank will need his men to turn up against PSG.
Tottenham will be back in action after the Super Cup game on Saturday when they host newly-promoted Burnley in their first Premier League game of 2025-26.
A trip to Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City the next weekend comes afterwards.
The North London club were disappointing in the domestic competitions last term, finishing 17th in the league table after losing 22 games.
The woeful performance cost Ange Postecoglou his job despite helping them to the Europa League trophy, and Frank has to do better across all competitions this term.
Getting the better of PSG on Wednesday will be a perfect way for the North London club to start 2025-26, but they are not favourites to win the game given the quality of the Ligue 1 champions.
