In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba. Romano said,

“I think it will be a tough race and situation because several clubs are interested. Also, Tottenham sent their scouts, and there is interest in Tapsoba. But also, because Bayer Leverkusen will only let him go for big money, more than €50m-€55m (£43m-£47m).”

Tapsoba’s Impressive Form In Bundesliga This Season

Tapsoba has enjoyed a solid campaign at the German club after putting in a series of impressive displays at the centre of their backline. The 24-year-old has participated in 47 matches for Bayer 04 Leverkusen this season, netting two goals and earning two assists across all competitions.

The Burkina Faso international has been a rock at the back for his current club as he is averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half based on his pass success rate of 85.8% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).

Is Tapsoba A Decent Choice For Tottenham Hotspur?

Tapsoba is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball to clear the danger when needed and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back.

Hence, Tapsoba would be a great fit for Tottenham’s brand of football in North London. We can expect him to inject more bite and steel into Spurs‘ defence and increase competition for places within their match-day squad.

At 24, the future looks quite promising for the Burkina Faso international. Hence, the North London giants would be wise to try everything they can to lure him to English football ahead of the new campaign. However, there are some question marks over whether he can make a smooth transition to life at Tottenham.
