According to Wettfreunde(h/t football.london), transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could pull a surprise move for RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan this summer.
Spurs are in the market for a new central defender having been linked to Pau Torres, Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni. But it now appears that Spurs could pull off a surprise signing of a name new on the list.
Simakan joined the German side in 2021 from the French side RC Strasbourg Alsace for £14.6 million. And after an impressive first season, he has attracted the attention of the policymakers at Tottenham.
Pau Torres has been linked to a move to Tottenham.
The former French U-20 international made a total of 40 appearances for Leipzig scoring one and assisting another. While there is much room for development, the youngster’s potential is clear for all to see.
Tottenham is said to be targeting the defender after extensively scouting the Frenchman. The central defender has not been widely reported of being on Tottenham’s radar, but it seems things have changed recently.
Antonio Conte had Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier at the back three last season and the Italian has been looking to add at least one more central defender to increase the competition at the back. Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are the other central-defenders in the team but have found game time difficult to come by.
It would serve as a major boost to Spurs if they can get a player of the right quality without any competition. It would also help Spurs become more competitive as Conte eyes silverware next season.
Antonio Conte is revamping the squad with hopes to win a silverware next season.
However Tottenham should act fast if they want to secure Simakan’s signature. Should news break out of their interest in the defender, he could also attract attention from other clubs, something which Spurs would love to avoid.
Simakan could also be a signing for the future. At 22-years-old, the Frenchman has huge potential in him and could be a splendid signing for the London side. It remains to be seen now what happens, but he will be a player to watch out for.
