PSG are set to take on Tottenham Hotspur on August 13 in the UEFA Super Cup, a marquee showdown that will open the 2025-26 season with a trophy up for grabs.
Tottenham could be without a key player heading into the match and are aiming to strengthen their squad before facing the reigning treble winners. While PSG powered their way to the FIFA Club World Cup final and dominated last season, Chelsea showed this summer that they aren’t invincible.
Spurs have already signed 24-year-old Mohammed Kudus and appointed Thomas Frank as their new manager. However, their preseason tour brought a setback as a key player picked up an injury.

James Maddison has picked up what Thomas Frank called a “bad knee injury.” The Tottenham midfielder came off the bench during the second half of their 1-1 draw with Newcastle United on Sunday at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
But his appearance was short-lived—he lasted only about 10 minutes before going down off the ball, moments after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka sent the ball out for a throw-in.
“Sometimes life and football can be brutal but also sometimes very beautiful,” Frank said (h/t The Athletic). “It was brutal what happened to Madders. It looks like a bad injury. We don’t know exactly the status of it. It didn’t look good.”
The England international only just recovered from a knee injury he suffered in the first leg of Tottenham’s Europa League semi-final win over Bodo/Glimt. Frank was then asked about the exact nature of the midfielder’s injury and said, “We are pretty sure it is the same knee he had the previous injury in.”
Tottenham are facing a significant blow with Maddison sidelined, and now they are set to lose team captain Son Heung-min as well. According to GiveMeSport’s Tom Bogert and Ben Jacobs, LAFC and Tottenham have agreed on a transfer fee, and Son has also settled on personal terms with the MLS club.
If PSG were already the favorite in the Super Cup, their odds of winning another trophy in 2025 have shot up even more.
