Vincent Kompany will not be Tottenham’s next permanent manager having informed his Burnley staff that he will be staying at Turf Moor next season.

Thompany waved away questions about his future amid interest from both Spurs and Chelsea as he was named Championship manager of the season over the weekend.

And now The Sun claim the former Manchester city captain ‘informed his coaching team that he wants to see the job through at Burnley’.

The report also states that the Burnley bosses have ‘promised to back Kompany in the transfer market this summer’ in a bid to keep the Belgian at the helm.

Kompany, whose Burnley side can clinch the Championship title away at Blackburn on Tuesday night, is currently second favourite to take over at Spurs despite this report, behind Julian Nagelsmann.

The German manager has two conditions to take over at Spurs, where Ryan Mason is now in interim charge after the club’s first interim boss of the season, Cristian Stellini, was relieved of his duties after their dismal 6-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Announcing Stellini’s departure, chairman Daniel Levy described the display at St James’ Park as ‘wholly unacceptable’.

Levy wrote: “Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see.

“We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.

“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.

“Ryan Mason will take over head coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.

“I met with the player committee today – the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season.

“We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support.”
