One of the very coolest features of Tottenham’s new stadium is the pitch.

Not because there will be special grass or anything like that but rather because the pitch itself can disappear.

The new ground will feature the world’s first retractable playing surface.

The groundbreaking design (pun very much intended) was devised so that the stadium could actual house two separate pitches: One for Spurs games and the other for NFL games.

The NFL pitch, which is synthetic, will sit below while special metal rails allow the grass pitch to move smoothly on and off in three sections.

One the pitch is put together, it is then raised up to the right level using hydraulics. The whole process will take just 25 minutes.

On Tuesday, Tottenham took a huge step towards the pitch becoming reality as the first of the sliding metal trays arrived at the construction side for installation.

Each tray weighs about 3,000 tonnes and there will be 99 of them in total.

It still has a long way to go before it opens next season but we here at Onefootball are genuinely excited to see the finished product.
