Nottingham Forest have a massive history and we have revealed GiveMeSport’s ranking for the top five managers of all time at the club.
The side managed to return to the Premier League following the 2022 Championship Play-off final against Huddersfield and this was the first time they have been in the top flight since 1999.
Forest were founded all the way back in 1865, and they have had around 50 managers since that time. Some have been amazing, whilst others have not been that great.
No doubt this list will be up for debate amongst Nottingham Forest fans and it was hard to pick, but here is our top five Nottingham Forest managers of all time.
Harry Hallam is a manager who took charge of Nottingham Forest from 1897-1909. During this period, he had a fair amount of success as he helped the club win an FA Cup trophy. Winning a trophy at the club and managing around 460 games for the club is a great record for Harry Hallam and it is definitely more than enough to place him on this list.
Billy Davies is one of few managers who had two different stints at Nottingham Forest, and they were both very good periods for the club. Davies managed to overachieve and get the side into playoffs on one of his spells as a manager; however, he wasn’t able to get the side promoted. He then narrowly missed out on the playoffs during his second spell but he did manage consistency at the club that not many have been able to do.
Steve Cooper is the current manager of Nottingham Forest and although his career at the club isn’t finished, he definitely deserves to be on this list. The Englishman took over in 2021, with the club in the relegation zone. He managed in the same season to get them promoted via the playoffs in the summer of 2022 and is now trying and doing a pretty good job of keeping Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. He currently boasts a record of 1.76 points per game.
Brian Clough is a football managing legend and a huge reason for his massive success at Nottingham Forest. He was appointed in 1975 and managed the club until 1993. During this period, he managed 377 games and picked up 1.5 points per match.
What makes him one of the best, as well as the best Nottingham Forest manager of all time, is the fact that he won it all at the club. Forest won one Premier League title, four English League Cups, one English Super Cup (Community Shield) and UEFA Supercup and also the Champions League twice. This is the majority of the trophies Nottingham Forest have ever won.
