Sparta Rotterdam seem to be on the verge of signing Jens Toornstra, according to Voetbal International. The 36-year-old midfielder will leave FC Utrecht on a free transfer for Het Kasteel, where he will be reunited with trainer Maurice Steijn.
Excelsior and NAC Breda were also in the market for the former Feyenoord man, who now seems to have made his choice. Toornstra will reportedly sign a two-year contract in Rotterdam-West.
Toornstra and Steijn have known each other since their time together at ADO Den Haag. In the capital, Toornstra earned a transfer to FC Utrecht, after which he left for Feyenoord and won the national title, the KNVB Cup (twice) and the Johan Cruyff Shield. After the successful period at Feyenoord, Toornstra signed with FC Utrecht, the club he now swaps for Sparta.
