Sheffield Wednesday fired Tony Pulis late on Monday evening after picking up four points from their last two games.

Sitting one from bottom in the Championship, Wednesday started the season with a six-point deduction and hired Pulis in November after a poor start to the season.

The former Stoke and Middlesbrough boss had a slow start at Hillsborough but a win and a draw in the last week has left them just three points from safety. However, Pulis has been fired just before the opening of the January transfer window.

BBC journalist Simon Stone said that there are “major issues behind the scenes re wages, recruitment etc” at the Yorkshire club.

First team coach Neil Thompson will take over until a permanent appointment is made.
