Tomáš Souček is hoping his goalscoring form with West Ham can continue on into the new season.
The Czech Republic international joined the Hammers on loan from Slavia Prague in January, and chipped in with three vital goals as David Moyes’ men narrowly avoided relegation.
Brentford visited London Stadium for a pre-season friendly on Saturday, and Souček was on target again as he netted the winner in a 2-1 victory.
“I like scoring here! I have to carry on scoring in season though,” the 25-year-old told West Ham TV.
“Now I am flying away to my national team and hopefully I carry on scoring and I can transfer my form into the start of the new season.”
Although obstensibly a defensive midfielder, Souček has developed the uncanny knack of arriving late into the opponents’ penalty area to brilliant effect.
His post-lockdown form was such that West Ham had little hesitation in exercising their option on the loan agreement to bring him to East London permanently on a €21m deal.
Souček, who got married during his three-week summer break, is scheduled to face Slovakia and Scotland with the Czech side during the upcoming international break.
