West Ham United are making their moves in the ongoing summer with determination. The London club are already looking at potential additions to strengthen their squad, with midfield one of the priorities. After an inconsistent season, the management believe that it is essential to add a midfielder who can provide balance.

Several names have been mentioned, but one in particular has gained traction, and that is Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian, currently out of favour at Juventus, could find in London a new opportunity to redeem himself. His profile fits what Graham Potter is looking for, and that is energy, experience and attacking instinct from the second line.

Douglas Luiz, a priority target for the Hammers this summer

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, reported by Sport Witness, West Ham have made contact with Juventus for Douglas Luiz. The English club are looking to close a loan deal for €10 million with an option to buy for between €25 and €30 million. The deal would allow the Brazilian’s performance to be assessed without immediately committing to a high price tag.

Everton have also shown interest, but the Toffees are behind in the race. With just three Serie A starts since his arrival in Turin, the former Aston Villa man appears out of the Italian side’s plans. West Ham, aware of his past quality in the Premier League, believe they can bring him back at a good level.

Will he be a good signing?

Douglas Luiz could become a valuable signing for West Ham if two conditions are met: that he returns to form and that the deal does not disrupt the finances. He had a poor spell at Juventus, but at Aston Villa he showed character, judgement on the ball and finishing. Luiz scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in his final season, all from midfield. Moreover, McGinn publicly praised him, calling him ‘world-class’.

With Graham Potter looking for a more dynamic midfield, Luiz could offer just that. The proposed formula allows room for manoeuvre. There is no urgency to sign him immediately and no fixed commitment. However, there are concerns about Luisz’s recent injury record. If he finds pace and continuity in the Premier League, West Ham would gain a complete player. If not, at least they won’t lose a lot of money. It is worth a try.
