Rangers lost 6-0 to Club Brugge tonight in Belgium to suffer one of their biggest defeats in Europe.

Rangers headed into the second-leg of their Champions League play-off on the back of a 3-1 defeat at Ibrox, but manager Russell Martin was hoping for a comeback.

However, things got off to a bad start for the Light Blues after five minutes as they found themselves behind very early into the game.

Max Aarons complicated matters for Rangers three minutes later as he was shown a straight red card.

The visitors were 5-0 down by half-time, and they conceded the sixth goal five minutes after the restart.

BBC Sport Scotland’s chief sports writer Tom English was not impressed with Martin and his men, blasting the Bears boss on Sportsound.

“Even before the red card, this was a shocking Rangers performance,” English said.

“Martin is clueless, he’s just not up to it.

“You can’t ignore this. This is screaming that this guy is not good enough. He’s a fast talker but there’s no substance to it. It’s a total humiliation.”

Rangers faced 32 shots tonight and could have conceded more goals had Jack Butland not made some decent saves.

Their heaviest defeat ever came against Liverpool in a Champions League game in October 2022, with the Premier League giants running out 7-1 winners at Ibrox.

They also lost 5-0 to Celtic in 2018 but their other heavy losses came years ago, with Real Madrid handing them a 6-0 drubbing in 1963, Eintracht Frankfurt defeating them 6-1 in 1960, while Cologne battered them 5-0 in 1982.

Rangers made Club Brugge look like the best team on the planet tonight, and Martin could struggle to come back from this result.

An underwhelming start to the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership campaign has not helped matters, with the club still in search of their first win having drawn thrice.

They return to action on Sunday when they host league leaders and reigning champions Celtic, and a defeat could spell the end of Martin’s Rangers reign – if he is still in charge until then.
