Norwich City have the opportunity to secure promotion at the end of the campaign, leaving the Canaries' recruitment team with plenty of work to do.

Looking at the teams at the top end of the division, David Wagner's side are probably the outsiders to secure promotion, even though they are firmly in the mix for a Premier League return.

But preparations will need to be made for life in two different divisions - and that work is probably underway already with the Norfolk outfit likely to want to beat other teams to in-demand players during the early stages of the summer transfer window.

Looking at their squad, there are some areas that clearly need to be looked at and they may have the budget to make quite a few additions if required, with Max Aarons and Andrew Omobamidele being sold last year and other valuable players including Jonathan Rowe, Gabriel Sara and Josh Sargent potentially in the frame to depart Carrow Road before the end of the next window.

Speaking of additions, we have picked out three potential summer signings who could benefit Wagner's men.

Colby Bishop

Portsmouth star Bishop could be such an important player for Norwich if he joined, with the striker arguably nearing the peak of his career at 27.

The striker has been in exceptional scoring form during the 2023/24 campaign and with Pompey benefitting from having Abu Kamara at their disposal, a relationship has already been established between the two teams.

In exchange for Kamara potentially re-joining the south-coast side on loan, it will be interesting to see whether John Mousinho's side are ready to let go of Bishop for a certain amount, after seeing him pass the 20-goal mark again this season.

Even without Kamara heading back to Fratton Park, the Canaries could have the funds to secure his signature, with the likes of Sara and Rowe likely to bring in huge amounts if they are sold.

The Canaries need to strengthen their forward area with loan man Sydney van Hooijdonk heading back to Italy at the end of the season and Sargent being linked with a move away from Carrow Road in recent months.

Bishop, who has been a consistent scorer in recent years and has two years left on his contract with his extension option in mind, could be an affordable option.

He may have won promotion at Fratton Park, but Norwich are a more established team in the Championship and that could persuade the 27-year-old to secure a move to Norfolk.

Harry Toffolo

Sam McCallum and Dimi Giannoulis both see their contracts expire at Carrow Road this summer and with this in mind, the club may need to invest in this area when the next window comes along.

Nottingham Forest's Toffolo has been an unused substitute in some of the East Midlands side's recent games, but he is a brilliant player to have in the Championship, having been such an asset in the final third for Huddersfield Town during their 2021/22 promotion push.

He registered six goals and eight assists in the second tier and the second-tier play-offs that term - and could make a similar impact for Wagner's side if he seals a move.

Norwich went down the route of experience when they signed Jack Stacey last summer - and they could do it again in the full-back department - with Toffolo managing to get some Premier League game time under his belt since his move to the City Ground.

This move could depend on whether Forest stay up or not, but if they do, he could potentially be deemed surplus to requirements in the East Midlands.

That could give Norwich the chance to swoop in and secure a permanent agreement.

Charlie Cresswell

There are a few reasons why Leeds United's Cresswell would be a realistic addition, even permanently.

As mentioned before, some key players could possibly be sold for a high amount this summer, which would boost the Canaries' transfer budget.

But even if they don't have a massive budget, they could get a deal for Cresswell over the line.

Firstly, he seems to be surplus to requirements at Elland Road, even with the Whites currently competing in the second tier at this point.

And if they are promoted to the top flight, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the young centre-back transfer-listed by Daniel Farke, even though he has played for England at a youth international level.

His contract may not expire until 2027, but Leeds can't demand a high amount for him considering his lack of game time this summer.

Ben Gibson and Danny Batth's contracts expire this summer and it remains to be seen what happens with them.

Looking at their centre-back picture as a whole, this is an ageing department at Carrow Road and they need a signing who could be an excellent signing for the long term in Norfolk.

Cresswell already has second-tier experience under his belt and could grow into a vital first-teamer for Norwich if he joins.
